You’re engaged!! …now what?

It’s so exciting when you first get engaged! But if you aren’t careful, planning your wedding can quickly turn into complete overwhelm. Lots of my brides admit that they find it so hard to clarify what it is exactly that they want for their weddings. There are lots of decisions to be made (venue/cake/style/dress/flowers/stationery etc….) There are so many options out there and sometimes, the most overwhelming thing for someone to say is…’just make sure it’s a true reflection of yourselves as a couple.’ That sounds nice right? But how exactly do you do it??

When I was newly engaged, one of the first things I bought was a wedding planner. It’s great to have a folder where you organise all of your ideas in one central place. Kikki K does some pretty planners, and check out this gorgeous one below, from Emily Ley. (Scroll to the bottom to be in to win this gorgeous one!)

Once you have your planner, buy a few wedding magazines. If you live in Australia, I’d suggest you look at White Magazine, Hitched, and Hello May. NZ brides – check out NZ Weddings Magazine and the online Magnolia Rouge Mag. When you have a few magazines, start by cutting out a few images that really resonate with you. Photographs you are drawn to. You could organise your folder into different sections, such as – ‘detail/decorations’ ‘venue’, ‘flowers’, ‘favours’, etc.

Lastly, try to stay away from Pinterest! At least in the beginning. I think it’s so important to start with wedding magazines to gather inspiration, because they literally have a start and a finish. Unlike Pinterest, which is endless, and can be completely overwhelming!

I’m borderline obsessed with Emily Ley products, and even though I’m not engaged yet, this is definitely the planner I’ll use in a year or two, so why not try to win one now?! Just being proactive ;)
