This isn’t a post about whether or not photographers should have blogs, (I firmly believe every photographer should have a blog!) rather it’s a post about blogging everything you shoot (or not?). I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and I’ve heard two different opinions – 1 is that you should only blog what you want to shoot, meaning only showing what type of clients you would like to book in the future. 2 is that you should blog everything you shoot, regardless. For me personally, I blog every wedding and engagement I shoot. In my opinion, if your blog is an integral part of your business (or you want it to be) I think it’s really important to blog your clients. Why? For me, I know that lots of the time my clients will be reading my blog before they have even booked me for their wedding etc. When they do their shoot (engagement or wedding) with me, most times they will be looking forward to seeing it on my blog. Another reason I think it’s important to blog, is that I know for me personally, if I go into a shoot thinking ‘oh, I wont blog this’ – I wont put 110% of my effort into the shoot. And why would I? If I can hide my images and no one has to see them apart from the client… This is one of the reasons social media & blogging is so powerful, your images can been seen by potentially thousands of people instantly. I think this is also one of the reasons why photographers freak out about blogging everything. But to be honest, we are all human, we aren’t always going to have clients that look like models with perfectly styled weddings and I firmly believe that every wedding you book is an opportunity, a chance to be better, so take advantage of that.
