Our New Neighbourhood

My Journal

Utah-KateRobinson_0009

It’s been just over a week since I moved to Salt Lake City, Utah! (If you are confused, and wondering why we are here…read this post) My husband had already been here for about 7 weeks, and it was so SO nice to be reunited. I don’t think I realised just how much I had missed Sam until I saw him waiting for me at the airport, and dissolved into a sobbing mess!

Sam thankfully managed to find us a place to live in that is already furnished. At first I was a little apprehensive when he told me about it, as it was smaller than we had hoped for. But the benefits of moving in somewhere with everything already provided (we don’t have a car here yet) far outweighed the negatives. We feel really blessed to have found a place that is already furnished since we’re planning to only be in America for a year.

HIGHLIGHTS

Besides sharing our exciting news (thank you so much to everyone who commented on my Facebook/Instagram and Blog post, I definitely felt the love!) there has been a few highlights. I’ve loved walking around discovering things in our neighbourhood, and I found a great cafe who know how to make flat whites! One morning we found banana bread at our doorstep that our landlords had left for us, which was so sweet. Another highlight was meeting with a fellow wedding photographer for lunch and great conversation at a cute cafe. I’ve also been loving the gorgeous spring weather, the beautiful blooms everywhere and the gorgeous views of the mountains and city lights from our home.

LOWLIGHTS

I don’t want to be negative, but I want to keep it real and say we definitely need a car! I have been enjoying the walking, but since we live a little out of town and around 25-40 minutes walk from most places with limited public transport, I have been feeling pretty tired from all of the walking! I think the heat also saps energy. This dry climate is also something to get used to, my nose and skin have definitely felt it!

I hope you enjoy this little update, and a little peek of our new space and neighbourhood!

This is one of my favourite cities! We used to live in Idaho and we visited Utah once for their Fall festival. Fell in love with the whole surrounding and people are so nice and friendly. Enjoy your stay there.
