My Essentials For Working From Home: Part 3

My Journal

KateRobinson_Podcast Whenever I am editing wedding photographs or designing albums, I love listening to podcasts. They help me focus and get work done faster! It’s one of the reasons I love to edit photographs – I get to learn from some really wise and inspiring people while I work. If I’m editing photographs or designing albums, I listen to either my favourite podcasts I’m subscribed to in iTunes or Spotify playlists. However, when I need to write emails or blog posts, I listen to either a lyrics-free playlist on Spotify, or simply switch on my noise cancelling headphones on, and listen to nothing! I used to listen/watch videos on the side of my computer, but anything visual was way too distracting for me. I also ban myself from YouTube when I work, it’s the quickest way to kiss my day goodbye! …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Here are a few of my favourite podcasts at the moment: This is your Life by Michael Hyatt I listen to Michael’s podcast when I want a good dose of wisdom. The advice Michael shares is so valuable, and the latest episode, ‘How to lead from the heart’ made me cry! For real. Check it out. – Converge: The Business of Creativity by Dane Sanders I’ve been following Dane’s various education ventures, ever since I read his book Fast Track Photographer. I love the style of this new podcast series, Dane interviews many fascinating people. The last one I listened to Dane was interviewing a man who chose to become homeless and live on the streets for more than 5 months. I love that not only photographers are interviewed, but leaders from all across the different creative industries. – The Lively Show by Jess Lively Podcasting seems to be a very male dominated thing at the moment! I love Jess Lively’s show, and I have listened to every episode since she started. She interviews mainly women who are killing it in their different industries. Jess’ focus and mission is to live life with intention, and her podcast aim is to ‘bring a little extra intention to your daily life’. I have followed Jess’ journey online for a few years now, through her awesome blog and I love what she is up to! – Photo Biz Exposed by Andrew Hellmich This Australian podcast is very focused around the business of photography, specifically weddings and portraits. I love the questions Andrew asks, he’s not afraid to go deep and as a result there is some awesome, valuable content. This is only podcast I listen to which is produced on this side of the world, and Andrew is doing a great job of interviewing Australian and NZ photographers. – Musea Podcast by Michael Howard This podcast has some great content in the archives. I haven’t seen a new episode in a little while, the consistency varies a little. It’s quite heavily focused on film photographers and it’s nice to hear a different perspective. I’ve been enjoying the episodes with Todd Reichman recently, and Michael has interviewed many amazing photographers in the past. – This American Life by Ira Glass Not photography or business related at all, but this is a podcast I listen to regularly. For each episode, they pick a topic, then focus the content around that specific theme. Episode 293: ‘A little bit of knowledge’, was hilarious. The stories are all true, from everyday people and it’s a always an unexpected mix of humour, sadness, disbelief and optimism. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Favourite Spotify Playlists: – No Lyrics: Electro Positivity | Brainstorm of the Century | Music for Concentration (don’t you love the names?!) | I also love listening to Lindsey Stirling. – Lyrics: Smart is the new sexy | Lorde & The New Pop Revolution | Throwbacks (Early 2000’s – my high school years, brings back so many memories!) | And when I really want to smash out some work, it’s always a Dubstep playlist like this one – Filtr DUBSTEP Oh! And of course when I need to have a little dance party (essential) I go for DANCEFLOOR HITS. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Phew! That was a LOT of linking. I really hope you get some value from the podcasts and albums I have shared. I hope they will also help you stay focused, productive and inspire you when you work! Do you have any favourite podcasts I haven’t mentioned? I’m always on the lookout for fresh inspiring content, so please let me know! I would love to hear from you. xx …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Click to read: Part One & Part Two from this series.
