My Essentials for Working from Home: Part 2

My Journal

One of the many beauties of working from home is that the space is your own. You can decorate it exactly how you like, and make it a place you’re excited to work from! For me, there are some simple necessities I have in my day that keep me excited about my work, and make my workspace a welcoming one.

Candles on my desk.

I love vanilla scented candles burning while I work! I love the Ecoya Vanilla Bean one the best. There is just something about lighting a candle when you begin your day that signifies that the day has started, and I think it helps me focus too.

Coffee in the morning, tea throughout the day (small obsession).

I have a coffee ritual mid morning which I look forward to every day! I use a stovetop espresso jug, and I love the process of making the perfect cup. Then I will usually have 3 more cups of Rooibos, Green Tea or Lady Grey throughout my day.

Dark chocolate.

Need I say more? I love having a square of dark chocolate with my morning coffee, the higher percentage of cocoa the better. I love Lindt’s 85%.

Freshly picked or bought flowers.

I love having life on my desk and around my home! I don’t always buy flowers, I currently have some freshly picked jasmine that was growing over the fence outside our apartment.

Bose noise cancelling headphones.

I wasn’t sure if I should include these here. I feel like I almost need to do a separate post to express my obsession with them! I purchased the headphones earlier this year, and yes they are expensive, but oh. so. worth. it. I can’t live without them now! Case in point: at the moment, there are about two major revovations happening on our street, plus some huge gumtrees are getting cut down (bit sad!) which makes for loud distracting noise! These babies really do work, and help me focus even if I’m only listening to the nature noise soundtrack on Spotify – more on that later!

It’s so essential for me to have these simple pleasures surrounding me, dotted throughout my day. On the outside the may seem frivolous or unnecessary, but they are an essential part of my working from home routine and they help me stay focused, motivated and give me something to look forward to.

What small things do you need in your workspace to make it a place you want to hang out in?

I’m so with you on the fresh flowers one! They brighten up any space and just put a smile on my face any time I see them. Definite must. I love the candle idea too! I might have to steal that one for when we move and set up house. :)

P.S. Looking forward to your Spotify post! :P
