I have been looking forward to this wedding with such anticipation ever since Danielle and Brendon asked me to be their photographer. Kawau Island is about a 40 minute boat trip from Sandpit (about an hour from Auckland), and it’s the definition of paradise. I visited Kawau with my family in early January, and seeing the pristine turquoise water, the cute jetty’s and the unspoiled land of the island made me even more excited for Danielle and Brendon’s special day.
Cyclone Pam was threatening New Zealand last weekend, but everyones fears were put at rest when Saturday’s skies were clear and blue, with a slight breeze. It was perfect! Danielle and Brendon were married at Schoolhouse bay under the shade of a huge beautiful tree. Freshly proclaimed husband and wife, they made their way back down the aisle showered in rose petals by their guests. After a few glasses of champagne and catching up with friends, we left the guests to lawn games and canapes, while we boarded a boat to go to the other side of the island for more photographs around Mansion House. Oh my goodness, the light was absolutely perfect!! It made my photographer heart very happy. This wasn’t much of a secret, as I was constantly exclaiming ‘this is amazing, perfect, beautiful…ohmygoodness incredible!!!’ Danielle and Brendon perfected the ‘nuzzle’ and were so easy to photograph.
After about an hour we hopped back on the boat, and were greeted by all the guests at schoolhouse bay jetty making a tunnel with their hands for Danielle and Brendon to run through. A marquee for the reception was set up on The Schoolhouse lawn right on the beach, every detail was perfection, and reflected the island feeling. Guests wined and dined into the night, and the whole day was such a success! I know Danielle and Brendon spent a long time organising their wedding, and the logistics of having it on an island can’t have been easy. But as you can see, everything went off without a hitch. I’m so happy to have been invited to celebrate and capture such a special couples amazing day. Hope you’re having fun in Hawaii guys! Enjoy xx
Amazing! Lovely photos. Could I please ask where the tent was from, and also if the couple took Portaloos over? Thanks :)
