Exciting News…

My Journal

Nope it’s not a baby! Did some of you think that? I feel like I’m at the age where everyone is asking me about kids haha. It’s not happening yet, but I am excited for that day to come…!

Americaannouncement

Last Friday I posted a photo of my husbands thesis he has just handed in! He’s worked for over three years to get to this moment, so it’s pretty special and definitely cause for celebration!

Obviously, the completion of Sam’s Phd meant he needed to find a job. We moved to Melbourne from Auckland in 2011 for him to start his PhD, and I couldn’t be prouder that he is very nearly done! I also can’t quite believe it’s been over 3 years, time has flown!

I’m also really proud that he was offered a job at The University of Utah in the USA. He has accepted… so, I’m excited to officially announce…

We are moving to America next year!!

We’ve known this for a few months, and it’s been really difficult to keep it secret!

At this stage, it will be for 1 year. Initially, we thought it might be for 3 years, but have since discovered it’s virtually impossible for me to carry on with my business in America, so we’ve decision to stay for 1 year.

I couldn’t be more excited! I never EVER thought we would live in America, but after visiting earlier this year and discovering we loved it, we are definitely ready for the adventure. Obviously, moving has so many complications and even more, moving so far away. We’re currently packing up our material possessions in Melbourne, and it’s crazy to see how much we have accumulated over 3.5 years, considering we came with almost nothing!

We will both miss Melbourne so much. We’ve made some incredible friends here, and we are part of a church community that we will miss dearly. At this stage, our location is undecided after the US. However, I have made a few decisions on where I will be based for weddings over this time.

BRIDES: I will be in NZ (Auckland based) from December 2015 – February 2016.

This summer, I will be in New Zealand from Christmas 2014 until April 2015 photographing many lovely weddings. I will be based in Salt Lake City, Utah (!!) end of April 2015 – until end of November 2015, then will head back to NZ.

Sam will be in America for one year, so we will be spending some time apart. Skype will become my best friend again.

Moving to America is so exciting, and it’s great opportunity. We’ve both felt strongly that we should go there. But lets be honest, it’s also scary. Some parts will probably be hard, we’re going to have to start over in regards to friends, and not knowing many people. We can’t predict the future, but can only step out in faith and trust that God has our backs!

If any of you reading this post have moved overseas, or to America specifically, I would LOVE to hear any tips or advice you may have, so please leave me a comment below.

Thank you guys so much for reading. Earlier this year, I made a commitment to try and make this blog a place of authenticity, honestly and great community. I’m excited to share more of my life on here, and I hope to hear from you in the comments as well! xx

oh wow amazing congrats. I moved to a very small town in Scotland for two years to support my fiance’s rugby career and best tip I have is to keep an open mind and be brave enough to put yourself out there in terms of meeting new people, even when it’s uncomfortable .. You’ll end up making life long friends I promise!! Plus you always have each other! Have an amazing time.
