Do more of what fires you up: Mornings + being intentional

My Journal

Lydia kicked off this little blog series where every few weeks we are sharing what is currently firing us up! So now it’s my turn. Every morning (except for weekends!) I have been getting up at 6am to start my day for the past couple of weeks. Now this isn’t completely natural for me! But honestly, starting my day with intention has me completely fired UP! I read a post on Michael Hyatt’s blog on how to be more productive by reengineering your morning ritual. You can read his post here. Do you identify with being a ‘Morning person’ or a ‘Night person’? In the podcast Michael says that this is a myth, and by labeling ourselves in this way we can hold ourselves back from our true potential! I never want to be held hostage to a label like, ‘I’m not a morning person’ and allow it to define me! But why would you want to get up early? According to studies, morning people tend to: Sign me up!!! Here’s what my old morning routine looked like… 7am (ish -sometimes 7.30), I would roll out of bed, put on my workout clothes, make and eat breakfast in a rush, and run out the door with Sam by 8am. I walk to the train/bus station with Sam which is about 20 minutes walk from our house, then I run home. By the time I have cooled down, stretched, and showered it was about 9am. I still wanted to spend some time journalling, planning the day, reading my bible and praying before I sat down to my computer, but it was already 9am by then! I rushed through everything because I wanted to start my work day by 9am. So here’s my morning routine now… 6am – Rise and shine! 6.15am – Journal in my Evernote app on my iPad, plan my day while sipping on a cup of Apple Cider Vinegar in hot water with a slice of lemon. Love this drink! 6.30am – read my Bible App and pray. 7.15am – breakfast with Sam. 7.45am – walk with Sam to the train, run home, shower and start the day by 9am! I’m not pretending this is easy…I admit, there was one weekday morning where I slept in. It will get harder going into winter when all I’ll want to do is snuggle between the sheets for a little bit longer! But I am honestly loving being intentional with my mornings. I think thats the point, don’t allow life to simply happen around you…think about what you want, how you are going to get it, then get intentional! “You have more power than you think. You don’t have to be stuck in a rut. If you are intentional, you can build the habits necessary to accomplish your goals—even if it means becoming a morning person.” Michael Hyatt Do you have any morning rituals you love and want to share? Did this post challenge you? I’d love to hear from you! Kate xx

I’ve just started changing everything around – so I am up at 5.45am – get my wee darling ready for school etc by 7am – off to gym – back by 8am – showered and school run – work start by 9am! I LOVE it – I feel like nothing gets in the way of my work time now and I get my me time at the gym done and dusted for the day super early. I am sure it makes me feel healthier and more invigorated for the whole day!

Wow go you Rachael!! That’s so awesome. I love having me time and workout time in the mornings to get into work fully focused! xxx

  5. Kate – can you please come and kick my butt for a week!!! I think ‘being intentional’ is exactly what I need to be these days – in fact I think I’m going to write those words on a large piece of paper and put them a few places around my house!! I have every ‘intention’ of being like this but don’t follow through and I’ve got into a ‘rut’ of sleeping too late and then the day starts late – and it completely throws everything else off!! I do however also start my day with hot water, lemon and ACV!! I’m going to write myself a bit of a schedule tonight and get my butt outta bed early tomorrow (the thought of snuggling back into bed on a cold rainy day is oh so irresistible but starting tomorrow I’m going to do my hardest to fight it!!)

Would love to start getting up earlier just a shame its so cold in the mornings!! How do you make your Apple cider drink???

  7. katerobinson says:

    Hi Angela!
You only need a small amount of ACV per cup, approximately 1 teaspoon. Then fill it up with hot water! I like to add a piece of lemon as well, but you can also add honey. More info on how to use ACV is here – http://www.thewellnesswarrior.com.au/2010/11/a-teaspoon-of-apple-cider-vinegar-each-day-will-help-keep-the-doctor-away/ hope this helps! Thanks for your comment xx

Hi Kate, thanks so much for your comment :) Writing it on a piece of paper is a great idea! Yes I know what you mean about starting late, I always feel off balance when that happens! That’s great you also start with ACV, I’m loving it and it’s soo good for you. I hope your scheduling goes to plan, let me know how you go! Love xx

Thanks so much! I have heard so many good things about ACV and I even went out to buy some after my first post to you! I also forgot to add that I just love your photography – every photo makes my heart skip! So fantastic! What a wonderful gift you have :)

I love these sorts of posts! This definitely inspired me to wake up early and create more space in my mornings. I also drink ACV with lemon in the morning, it really helps wake me up! x
