A VERY Exciting Announcement…

My Journal

I’m excited to share the news today that I am pregnant! Sam and I are overjoyed and really looking forward to this new stage of life. I thought I would also share with you some of my personal experiences and observations of this new territory today.

CHANGING MY TUNE

I admit, I was a bit scared of the thought of having a baby and being a mother for the longest time. Sam has always been very open to the idea, but I’m not an extremely maternal person so it wasn’t really something I thought about much. However, when Sam and I starting talking about the possibility of starting a family soon, instead of feeling terrified, I starting feeling excited, and full of anticipation. I had a heart change and suddenly my future looked different, in the best way.

ANNOUNCE, OR KEEP SECRET?

Obviously I was always going to tell family and friends, but there was still the question of ‘should I share the news on my blog?’ Some photographers tend to think it’s career suicide, but I have always shared my life on this blog. I see it more like a journal, a great way to record life’s experiences and hopefully connect with a few people along the way. I did debate sharing the news, but as soon as I thought of that possibility, it felt utterly inauthentic for me. I strive to run my business personally, with as much heart and soul as I can. So sharing this exciting news with you, is a no-brainer. And don’t worry – I don’t have any plans to turn this into a pregnancy or baby blog!

HOW I’VE BEEN FEELING

Some people might be annoyed to hear this, but I have felt, and still feel, incredibly fine. Sometimes worryingly fine. Of course, it’s such a blessing, and my Mum also didn’t have any pregnancy symptoms. But it’s not something you hear about much! I was so blessed to photograph weddings nearly every weekend in my first trimester with no problems at all.

WHERE TO FROM HERE?

I’ve just finished a busy season of weddings, and last Friday I flew to America to start our new adventure with Sam. I am still booking weddings for New Zealand in December 2015 and January 2016 (January is nearly fully booked!) So although I will have a quieter wedding season compared to previous years, I’m really looking forward to devoting my time to a select amount of brides and grooms.

OTHER BITS & PIECES

My due date is 15th of October, and I’m having the baby in Salt Lake City! Don’t worry, we have health insurance. The American system is very different to the one in Australia and NZ, so if anyone reading this has any experience with it, please share any advice or tips! We’ve decided to not find out the gender, so it will be a surprise. Best moment so far? My first ultrasound scan with Mum! Sam was in America already when my initial scan was due, so it was super special to go with my Mum and see a little life inside me bouncing around (so surreal)!

Thank you so much for reading. I’m excited to share more of this new journey, and life in America with you soon! Any comments, tips, recommendations, things that have worked (or not worked) for you, stylish maternity clothing (I’ll be needing it soon!), helpful books, websites etc. will be very welcomed for this first time Mum!! Ahh still can’t quite believe it! xx

Thank you Natalie for the photograph of us above. x

WOW Kate, that is lovely news – what a year full of adventure you will have and wonderful new memories you will make. Congratulations to you both, I love following your Blog and I am so happy you decided to share your great news with us. Many blessings x

Sincerest congratulations! So very happy for you, Sam and the rest of your family – nothing quite beats the excitement of a first-born! I still remember vividly the crazy anticipation, the obsessive nesting, the incredible scans… (well, even with a second, the scans are still pretty fun and surreal!)
My only advice is to plan the best you can, but in the end just enjoy the ride – sometimes things don’t always work out as envisioned but that’s never a reflection of how good of a mother you are. Parenting is the hardest thing you’ll ever do in life, but the rewards are phenomenal!! You guys are gonna be such beautiful parents xoxoxo

This is wonderful news for you two.
It is so good that you are feeling well so far, that is a wonderful blessing.
You are embarking on an amazing journey that will fill your heart with so much love for the life you have created. It will be incredibly rewarding, enjoyable, heaps of fun but will also have its challenges. The best thing you can do for your children is to parent together and to love each other.

I’m so happy for the two of you – the biggest of congratulations. I was much the same with my little one, barely any symptoms of pregnancy and felt fantastic. I’m also not the maternal type and it off for quite some time until I felt comfortable with the idea – now my little man is just the best thing ever and I couldn’t be more blessed! You’ll be a fabulous mumma! Jodie x
