My Goals For 2018

My Journal

Happy 2018! I hope you’ve had a relaxed holiday break and feeling ready to dive into the new year with fresh energy and renewed passion. There’s nothing special about January 1st, but something about a new year just feels like a clean slate, a new beginning and a chance to get intentional about how to spend the year ahead.

I’ve made these goals with an outline from the wonderful Jenna Kutcher, you can grab her goal setting guide here.

Of course I could keep these goals to myself, write them in my journal…and probably never look at them again. Publishing my goals on my blog is something I’ve done in years past, but this year it feels more scary and vulnerable. I’m doing it to seek accountability and my hope is that it motivates you to set some goals for 2018 too!

These are the goals I’m most excited about in the categories: Personal, Dream, Business, Spiritual, and Wellness.

Get comfy, grab a coffee and settle in…this post is a meaty one. x

PERSONAL
GOAL: Be a more patient and relaxed parent/wife/Mum.
Ava and Tom have taught us the true meaning of unconditional love. These two tiny humans have truly rocked our world. It hasn’t always been easy, and lately I find myself losing my temper with Ava who is 2…(read: tantrums, meltdowns, disobedience) more often than I’d like. We’re in NZ at the moment, and it’s highlighted to me how much of a control freak I am when it comes to the kids. I want to be more relaxed with leaving them with my parents and people I trust.

BY DATE: Starting now!

ACTION STEPS TO ACHIEVE:
– Ava in daycare 1-2 days per week.
– Read 3 parenting books.
– Decide on discipline plan with Sam and consistently implement.
– Regular dates with friends and with Sam.
– Weekly ‘me time’.
– Don’t criticise, condemn or complain. (I’m reading ‘How To Win Friends And Influence People’ at the moment, this is one of the gems from the book.
– Keep a daily journal of how I felt as a Mum that day.

FEARS:
– That I would lose my cool too often.
– That I’d feel like a failure…

REFINED GOAL: I want to be a patient and relaxed person so I can enjoy being a Mum.

CELEBRATED HOW: A day at a spa!

DREAM
GOAL: Buy a home!
I want to spend and use our money wisely this year. Creating a budget and plan will help us do this. Sam is the saver in our relationship, and I am definitely the spender so this is going to be hard for me…but so worth it! We want to make a wise investment, and it’s a big scary dream that we want to make a reality!

BY DATE: December 2018

ACTION STEPS TO ACHIEVE:
– Write a budget and stick to it!
– Brainstorm ways to save money.
– Re-read Dave Ramseys Total Money Makeover book.

FEARS:
– That we wouldn’t have any fun because we wont be able to spend any money…
– That we wouldn’t achieve our goal.

REFINED GOAL: Spend money wisely this year to save enough for a house deposit.

CELEBRATED HOW: Buying a home would be celebration enough!

BUSINESS

GOAL: Book 10 weddings in Brisbane.
Since moving to Brisbane in April 2017 it’s been a complete whirlwind. Having 2 kids under 2 is no joke, it’s been more challenging than I anticipated! I am more time poor than I’ve ever been, and it’s something I constantly struggle with. But photographing weddings is my absolute passion. I still love this job I’m so privileged to do, even after 9 years of photographing beautiful days. Starting and establishing my business again in a completely new market has been daunting, but I’m determined to make it happen this year!

BY DATE: April 2019

ACTION STEPS TO ACHIEVE:
– Create marketing plan and action it.
– Create content (social media & blog) and show up regularly and consistently.
– Second shoot for other photographers.
– Wedding fair in Brisbane

FEARS:
– That I wouldn’t achieve my goal
– That I wouldn’t have the time to implement a consistent marketing presence.

REFINED GOAL: Book 10 weddings in Queensland by April 2019.

CELEBRATED HOW: A photography/business workshop or retreat.

SPIRITUAL
GOAL: Improve my relationship with God.
This is my top priority in my life, but it’s something that gets neglected too often. I love these verses from Proverbs 16:3 “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Also Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

BY DATE: Starting now.

ACTION STEPS TO ACHIEVE:
– Choose plans in the You Version Bible App in advance and set reminders on my phone.
– Write out my prayers in a journal.
– Wake up early before kids to have quiet time.
– Organise a bible study with friends.

FEARS:
– I wouldn’t make it a priority.

REFINED GOAL: Daily quiet time to improve my relationship with God.

CELEBRATED HOW: Attend a womens retreat or conference.

WELLNESS
GOAL: Lose baby weight.
I feel like this is such a cliche goal, but it’s something that I’m determined to achieve this year! I want to feel strong and have lots of energy to keep up with my little darlings.

BY DATE: May 2019

ACTION STEPS TO ACHIEVE:
– Meal planning at the start of each week.
– Cut up vegie sticks to have accessible in the fridge for snacks. Make healthy snacks.
– Implement a (physio approved) exercise plan.

FEARS:
– That I wouldn’t stick to healthy eating and one ‘cheat day’ will turn into a cheat month, year…
– It will be hard to lose weight.

REFINED GOAL: Nourish my body with the right foods so I can have more energy and get back to pre baby weight.

CELEBRATED HOW: Buy some new clothes and create a capsule wardrobe – so excited about doing this!

My word for 2018: SURRENDER.

Whew. If you read this far, well done. Have you made any goals for 2018? Let me know and we can motivate and keep each other accountable. Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you have a truly amazing 2018. x
