July Snapshot

My Journal

So I know one of my goals a while back was to be more creative with my self portraits every month….but it’s actually really hard! I didn’t realise how critical I am of myself sometimes. Especially during winter when it’s easier to gain a little bit of weight and, despite my best efforts to get a bit of sun in Queensland, I have had to accept that my summer foundation is a shade too dark now. So this is my slightly self-conscious portrait for this month! Dreaming of warmer days. Despite all my moaning, I do love winter. I love that you can get cosy snuggled under blankets on the couch, I adore winter slow cooking stews and curries, I love fires (if you are lucky enough to have a fireplace in your home), I also love the winter light on clear sky days. The golden sunsets are so much more intense in winter.   JULY 2012 Winter is always the slower time for wedding photographers (although I do have a wedding this weekend… just down the road from where we live! Can’t wait Anna & Dave xx) I do love this season because it gives me some room to work on and implement my ideas. I have had too many ideas floating around in my head lately… and because of that I wasn’t getting things done, it was too confusing! So just this morning I wrote down everything that was swirling around it my brain, it was great to get it out onto paper because now I can see and prioritize what needs to get done first! My husband came home last night and told me to read this article, which is definitely worth reading even if it is geared to PHD students, and from a slightly nerdy source (naturejobs.com?!) The article says that most procrastination is subtle, some activities make it seem as though you’re doing something useful, and you may well be, but it’s not the thing you should be doing right now. That sounds familiar…! From the article… First, big projects need to be broken down into steps. Not just small steps, but tiny steps. Second, you need to set a time or deadline by which to perform that tiny step. Third, you need to build in an immediate reward. (Oh I like the sound of this one!)   SOME JULY BUSINESS GOALS   Submit weddings to inspiration wedding blogs! Organise all details for Planted with Light (which I am SO excited for). An hour a day of RHH B-School, definitely behind with this… Update blog slideshow headers. Update wedding collections. Plan new packaging. Plan & print custom stationery. Send photographs to vendors! Priority.   SOME JULY PERSONAL GOALS   Keep running every week day. Take a break from my computer during the day, go outside (if it’s not raining…) Stay on track, don’t get distracted by Facebook etc!   Now I have finished this blog post, I’m going to reward myself with my morning coffee! Have a wonderful July (whats left of it) everyone! xx
