North Stradbroke Island Holiday

My Journal

Last weekend Sam organised a surprise trip for us, a combination Babymoon and 31st birthday present for me! We had the rare opportunity for a mini break away because my parents are here from New Zealand to help me with Ava while we patiently wait for baby brother to arrive.

I was super excited, but a little nervous when I found out the location for our trip because we were going to North Stradbroke Island (or Straddie), and I was 38 weeks pregnant! Thankfully baby brother stayed put and we had a lovely time… despite poor Sam being sick for most of it.

The 45 minute barge ride over from Cleveland to Stradbroke was pretty exciting, with the gorgeous island fast approaching.

We stayed in a cabin at Adder Rock Campground, which was pretty basic accommodation but the 2 min walk to the beautiful white sand beach made up for it.

As soon as you arrive it feels like a million miles away and you’re instantly transported into island time.

I love living in Brisbane, because incredible beaches and islands like this are so accessible!

We spotted a gorgeous wedding taking place in a beautiful cove down from Point Lookout Surf Club. Straddie would be such an ideal place to get married for a laid back beach wedding. The natural beauty of the island was incredible, the contrast of rugged windswept salty trees with the sparkling ocean makes this place a photographers dream!

This little break was exactly what Sam and I both needed before the 2 under 2, newborn toddler craziness begins – any day now! It was such a blessing to have two days of fresh seafood, sleep ins, no agendas, lazy coffees, whale watching, beautiful dips in the pristine cool waters. We will definitely be back.
