This winter, I wanted to challenge myself creatively. I wanted to photograph lots of different couples, to challenge the usual way I do things and to generally mix things up a bit! I started with my ‘Lets Stay Together‘ project, which I’m still doing. My aim for the project is to portray other couples having fun together, actively making time for each other. I wanted other couples to be inspired by those images. I wanted people to realise that relationships are a choice, and to keep them alive they need loving care and attention. A couple who reached out to me for the project was Gabi and Ilan. They are engaged, and for religious and personal reasons they don’t have any physical contact before their wedding day. When Gabi first told me this via email, my first thought was ‘what an amazing challenge’! How was I going to capture Gabi and Ilan’s love for each other? My photography style is quite warm, snuggly and romantic, how was I going to portray that feeling in the photos? What Gabi and Ilan made me realise is that love isn’t all about hugs and kisses. It’s also about the way you look at each other, the way you talk to one another, it’s also about the way you laugh together, the way you whisper into their ear. Love can be expressed in many different ways. Thank you Gabi and Ilan for showing me, and reminding me of this. xx
