February 23, 2012 Red Barn Wedding: Emily & Phil
Emily & Phil met while they were in high school (sweethearts!)…I felt beyond honoured to capture their beautiful wedding a few weekends ago, held at The Red Barn in Cambridge (LOVE this place!). Special thanks to my sister Lydia who second shot for me on the day xxx
Emily’s gorgeous dress was made by Kate Dowman. The amazing florals were by Miss Daisy in Hamilton, they did an incredible job!
I loved Emily’s personalised coat hanger!
Emily made the bridesmaids singlets. Their dresses were beautiful!
I love the personal touches from Miss Daisy flower shop. Every bouquet came with a personalised tag for each bridesmaid, they even sent the flowers with a handwritten note!
Emily’s preparations were in the most gorgeous place overlooking Lake Karapiro.
Emily’s twin sister Tiffany is also a photographer! Love Polaroid.
Phil gave Emily a Greenstone necklace on the wedding day in honour of his Maori heritage, which she wrapped around her bouquet.
The Red Barn in Cambridge is such a beautiful venue, I loved the outdoor setting under the trees where they were married.
Sneaky peek as the bridal cars come up the drive!
Gorgeous bridesmaids!
This driveway was AMAZING. Beautiful Em x
LOVE it when brides have colourful shoes!
Emily & Phil had an EPIC dance planned with their bridal party, so during the photos they had a practice!
Haha love it.
Beautiful.
Emily’s DIY at the reception was styled to perfection.
Congratulations Mr & Mrs L’Huillier! You had such an amazingly gorgeous day. Thank you so much for inviting us, what a privelege it was to be part of! xxx
February 22, 2012 Matakana Wedding: Kiri & Shaun
Kiri & Shaun were married in beautiful Matakana a few weekends ago. The day started with preparations at Kiri’s Nana’s house while Shaun was with the boys a few houses along the road. Kiri spent lots of time at her Nana’s house in Matakana when she was little, so she has many fond memories there. Shaun & Kiri chose to have photographs before the ceremony to maximize the amount of time they could spend with their guests (LOVE it when couples choose to do this!). Shaun waited for Kiri underneath the trees overlooking the water for their first look, then we headed over to Big Omaha Wharf. I loved the little church they got married in front of! Huge thanks to Lisa Hill from Beautiful Events for orchestrating such a lovely day xx
February 21, 2012 Run iPhone-ography
As lots of you know, I’m currently staying at my parents house for a season to photograph all the gorgeous weddings I’ve been fortunate enough to be invited to, here in NZ. My husband started his PHD in Melbourne, in June of last year – read more about our adventure here. I wont pretend it’s a piece of cake being apart from Sam for this time, but at the moment I’m actually quite enjoying being able to live between 2 countries. Keeps things interesting, and I get to spend time with my family here. My parents live in the country and I’ve been loving my morning runs here, so I took my iPhone with me today to share a little of what I see most mornings… xx
These are all processed with the App Frametastic
February 20, 2012 Abbotsford Convent Engagement: Erin & Will
Love these two. So excited for their November wedding in Melbourne! I met with Erin & Will last week at an incredible place in Melbourne called Abbotsford Convent, which is an old convent turned into an unique community space. The Convent houses artists, practitioners and many creative organisations. There is also galleries, a bakery, several restaurants, two bars, and a community radio station! I was also introduced to a restuarant called ‘Lentil as Anything‘ – a non profit restaurant that doesn’t have any prices on the menu, you just pay for what you feel the meal is worth! From their website… At Lentil, you are free to contribute what you think it’s worth, to continue a movement that values the diner over the dollar. Such an amazing philosophy! Erin & Will, thank you for introducing me to a bit of Melbourne culture ( the day after the shoot Erin also text messaged me her restaurant recommendations in Melbourne, love her!) and for being so fun & unashamedly loving toward each other. It was lovely to see and even lovelier to capture xx
February 14, 2012 Just a peek for now…
A peek into the beautiful love from the wonderful couples I’ve been lucky enough to be surrounded by lately…
Shaun & Kiri’s Matakana wedding last Saturday.
Jessica & James. Auckland Art Gallery. Could these two get any cooler? I think not.
I photographed Erin and Will yesterday at the Abbotsford Convent in Melbourne. I LOVED this place, photographing these two here was so much fun!
Can’t wait to show you more… I’m in Melbourne at the moment for a flying visit to see my husband Sam! Back to NZ Thursday… xx
February 9, 2012 Devonport Wedding: Niki & Dan
I met Niki & Dan at The Grand Wedding Show last April. I remember them because Dan came up to me and asked, “why should we book you?” haha! I reeally don’t like questions like that! I think I blurted out “I don’t know…!” When I chatted to them further, I could tell they were a fun loving couple. I always love hearing stories about how people meet, and Dan & Niki did so online! This has definitely changed my perception on the online dating world! You just never know where you will meet the right one. I’m so pleased to share their GORGEOUS wedding, held a couple of weeks ago in Devonport. The reception was held in a marquee at Fort Takapuna – an old defense force base overlooking Rangitoto Island. Niki with her Mum sourced all the Silverware second-hand for the tables and Florienne in Takapuna created the beautiful floral arrangements to achieve a classic vintage feel. Niki looked so elegant in her beautiful Anna Schimmel dress, I just love her amazing creations! Congratulations Niki & Dan! Thank you so much for choosing me to be your wedding photographer, it was such a joy to capture your beautiful day xx
February 8, 2012 Ideas for displaying your photographs.
A little while ago I blogged about inspiring videos I had watched while editing. One of them was this one, interviewing some exceptional photographers – Sarah & Chris Rhoads, entitled ‘Find your strength’. I love how they gave a little tour of their home, and I fell in LOVE with their photo display coffee table. I have no idea where I could find one, however I’m determined to get one similar made. As much as I love albums, which are essential for long lasting preservation of your photographs, I think this coffee table is such an accessible way to view your photos. I know when I’m visiting friends, I love looking through their albums (completely nosy like that!) and I think this table would be such a great talking point. I love how random the collection of prints is all piled together. With digital photography photographs are often buried on computer hard drives, and never get printed! (I am guilty of this…) Maybe because it’s daunting to know what to do with your photos, once you do get them printed. I had very grand ideas of putting mine & Sam’s travel photographs into photo books, but sadly it hasn’t happened yet! One of my goals this year is to get our personal photographs printed, and even more importantly…. to display them! I love the feeling of being transported back into a moment when I look at photographs. Photos conjure up so many memories, it’s important to live amongst them.
Here are some frame grabs from the video, if you want to check it out the drawers – they feature about 2 minutes into the clip.
I’ve also started a Pinterest board to collect other inspiring ways to display your photographs. I’d love to see or hear about any of yours too! xx
February 6, 2012 Emily & Phil: Just a peek!
These two were married on Saturday at the a.m.a.z.i.n.g Red Barn in Cambridge. So excited to show you more from this beautiful wedding! Congratulations Emily & Phil! xx
February 2, 2012 February Snapshot
Wow…it’s February! It’s busy wedding ‘season’ at the moment for me and lately I’ve been thinking about why I love weddings and wedding photography. This is what inspired February’s ‘snapshot’. It’s a photograph of my Grandma in her wedding dress. I love this photograph for a few reasons. 1 – I get to see what my Grandma looked like on her wedding day before I even existed. 2 – it gives me a glimpse into her life. 3 – I know that with this photograph and others, her legacy lives on. I love that this is what I get to do, preserve memories. It sounds cheesy, but I’m grateful.
FEBRUARY 2012
This month, I’m excited to photograph Emily & Phil’s wedding at the Red Barn in Karapiro, Shaun & Kiri’s wedding in Matakana planned by the lovely Lisa at Beautiful Events, Samantha & Dan’s wedding in Waihi and Jenna & Mike’s wedding at The Wharf in Auckland! I’m also excited to go to Melbourne for 4 days to see Sam (in just over a week!) I fly back to Auckland on the morning of our 4th wedding Anniversary!
SOME FEBRUARY BUSINESS GOALS
-Finish all outstanding 2011 Queensberry album designs, get approved and send to print. (This was also last months goal, but I’m finishing the last album design today!)
-Don’t get distracted and cut down on checking social media. I know if I hired someone to work for me, and I found out I was paying them to be on Facebook…I wouldn’t be very happy. So why do I allow myself to do it? The goal for this month is to be productive and create work boundaries for myself.
-My sister Lydia is helping me edit some of my weddings, and I love it! At the moment I am on top of editing, the goal is to stay this way…!
-Perfect and stick to wedding post production system!
-Get accounts sorted and give all details to accountant for upcoming tax return…
-Design custom stationary.
- Keep blogging consistently!
- Send photographs to wedding vendors.
SOME FEBRUARY PERSONAL GOALS…
-Take scheduled time out for breaks, fun, and stay inspired. I find if I put this into my diary, I tend to work more productively because I’m looking forward to something.
-Visit the library and stock up on some good reads…recommendations? Has anyone read anything that they loved over the summer?
-Keep running every weekday.
Have a fabulous February people! What are your goals for the month? I’d love to hear them xx
